RI Academy scholarship deadline set for March 5
The Rappahannock Industrial Academy Alumni Association is seeking applicants for its annual scholarships. The scholarships are open to African-American students who are graduating seniors in the public high schools of Essex, Middlesex, and King and Queen counties, or who are residents of these counties.
One scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a student from each county. The scholarship is renewable for the sophomore year. Eligible applicants must plan to enroll in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university, or technical school, and must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, and a commitment to serving the community. All students who meet the above criteria are encouraged to apply.
Winners of the RI Academy scholarship for 2012 were Georgiana Lee of Middlesex County, Reginald Johnson of Essex County, and Joseph Young of King and Queen County. Students whose scholarships were renewed in 2012 are Monisha Holmes of King and Queen County and Jodeci Smith of Middlesex County.
The scholarship application deadline for this year is March 5, 2013. Application forms may be obtained from guidance counselors in the high schools, Southside Rappahannock Baptist Association affiliated churches, or from the website of The Community Foundation of Greater Richmond at tcfrichmond.org.
