Do you know where the port city of Mumbai is? Or on which peninsula Valencia is located?

The winners of the 2012 Middlesex Elementary School and St. Clare Walker Middle School National Geographic Bee were able to answer these, and many more questions, correctly!

Sixth-grader Tyler Radabaugh and fifth-grader Sarah Walton won their school-wide contests last week, defeating nearly 200 students for the chance to advance to the next level of Geographic Bee competition.

Both students will now take a written examination to determine whether they will compete at the state level. This is the 24th year the National Geographic Society has held the National Geographic Bee for students in grades 4-8 in thousands of schools across the U.S., in U.S. territories, and in Department of Defense schools around the globe.

The first prize at the national championship is a $25,000 college scholarship.

Seventh-grader Kelly Wood finished second at St. Clare Walker, while Elizabeth Ebinger and Cheyanne Duncan tied for third.

At Middlesex Elementary School, fourth-grader Brandon Bell placed second, while fifth-graders Kayla Paulos and Jacob Nelson tied for third.
