On the waterfront

image

Students in Michael Carey’s Christchurch School Integrated Science I class know it’s going to be a great day when the homework assignment says, “Dress to get wet!” On Monday, as part of a greater unit on ecology, the class worked at the school’s waterfront. They seined the shallows for bay critters to use as they investigate how native oysters benefit water quality and habitats in the Rappahannock River. Above, Carey’s students learn the basics of seining from CCS Waterfront Director & Sustainability Coordinator Will Smiley.
