Murrays honored by Kiwanis International

imageAt the recent annual Kiwanis Capital District Convention held at the Richmond Marriott, Capital District Governor Art Riley presented Middlesex school teachers Judy and Bill Murray individual awards from Kiwanis International recognizing them as “Outstanding Faculty Advisors.”

In 1998, Judy Murray organized the Rappahannock Central K-Kids Club (now the Middlesex Elementary School K-Kids Club).  She has served continuously as the faculty advisor since the club was chartered 10 years ago.  The K-Kids Club was the first one chartered in the Capital District and the second club chartered in Kiwanis International.

There is no other K-Kids faculty advisor in the Capital District that has served longer than Mrs. Murray, and possibly only one other in Kiwanis International . The Middlesex Elementary School K-Kids Club has always been very active and continues to win both district and international awards.

Mrs. Murray’s dedication to the Kiwanis family is overwhelming.  She is a Kiwanian, K-Kids Faculty Advisor, former Capital District Division 4 Lieutenant Governor, Capital District K-Kids Administrator and Key Club Zone Administrator, in addition to teaching and being a housewife.  She also attends district and international conventions with her husband Bill.

Bill Murray organized the Middlesex High School Key Club in the fall of 1988 and has served continuously for 20 years as the Faculty Advisor.  It is doubtful if any other Faculty Advisor in the history of Key Club can top this dedicated commitment to our youth.

Under Mr. Murray’s counseling, the Middlesex High School Key Club is very active and continues to win numerous first place awards at the annual Key Club Convention.  The club also has won first place international awards.

Mr. Murray has been recognized and honored twice as the Capital District Key Club Advisor of the Year.  He has attended 17 Capital District Key Club Conventions, 10 international conventions and at least eight Capital District Kiwanis Conventions.  He is an Honorary Member of the Kiwanis Club of Middlesex.

The Kiwanis Club of Middlesex sponsors Service Leadership Programs in all schools in Middlesex County and Mathews High School. “The club would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank the Murrays for their outstanding dedication and commitment as Faculty Advisors,” said a club spokesperson.
