Middlesex High School football team players who are not playing winter sports are tutoring at the elementary school as part of an overall effort by MHS head coach Josh Franke to stimulate community service among his players.
“We sat down with Mrs. (Jeannie) Duke and with her encouragement established a tutoring program on Thursdays at the elementary school,” said Franke.
The players are in weightlifting and conditioning programs four days a week and on Thursday they go to the elementary school, Franke said.
“We are really putting an emphasis on that. Being a part of a football team is more than just about football,” said Franke.
“We want our kids to understand that being a part of the Middlesex High School football team is not just an August to November thing,” he said. “It’s an all-the-time thing that is part of a brotherhood that stretches further than just the football field.”
