Montgomery awarded writing scholarship
Carol Montgomery of Hartfield has been selected as the first runner-up in the Student Authors of Short Stories Scholarship Award given by The Arts Club of Washington.
Montgomery will receive a $1,000 scholarship and will be recognized at The Arts Club dinner in May.
Montgomery is the daughter of Chris Montgomery of Hartfield. She is a 2007 graduate of Woodside High School, where her father is an English teacher.
She is the granddaughter of Carol and Robert Montgomery of Hartfield, and she attended Wilton Elementary School.
A sophomore English and theatre double major at Mary Washington University, Montgomery has been named to the dean’s list.
She was in the university’s production of “Goodnight Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet” and is a member of the club tennis team.
Founded in 1916, The Arts Club of Washington is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering participation in the arts in the Capital Region through educational programs.
The scholarship awards for Student Authors of Short Stories are chosen from among submissions from college students in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.
