Middlesex Students visit Independence Hall

image

Two juniors at Middlesex High School, John Walsh and Lauren Donner, recently toured Colonial Philadelphia as part of the Freedoms Foundation Student Leadership Conference at Valley Forge. These future leaders were sent, all expenses paid, by the local Mary Ball Washington Chapter and were accompanied by two of its members, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Waring of Saluda. At the conference, the students were immersed in an in-depth study of the Constitution and the Founding Fathers.

Walsh, Donner, and their parents were honored at a luncheon on May 2 at the home of Mr. And Mrs. Bill Benton of Topping. Both students spoke about what the conference meant to them and highlighted the Mock Congress session led by two college professors in which the students debated sections of the 2008 Patriot Act to determine if the sections were constitutional.

For additional information about the local chapter, interested persons may call (804) 758-3432.
