Middlesex High receives scholarship in memory of former teacher Mary Barnes
Middlesex High School (MHS) recently received a $10,000 scholarship from the family of Mary Barnes, a longtime educator in Middlesex County. Ms. Barnes died April 21, 2011. She taught science at St. Clare Walker Middle School from 1973-1998.
She loved teaching and enjoyed golfing, fishing and crabbing with friends and family, and mowing her neighbors’ lawns. Her smile, sense of humor, and care for the creatures of the earth will be long remembered by all who knew her. Her love for science will live on for MHS students who desire to go to RCC and wish to begin a major in science.
Annual $1,000 scholarships will be given in her memory.
“Middlesex High School is so fortunate to receive this scholarship money in memory of Ms. Barnes. It is a true privilege to honor a dedicated educator by having her love for learning passed on through beginning someone else’s college career,” said Jeannie Duke, principal of MHS.
