Candice Riena Owens of Church View, a graduating senior at Middlesex High School who will be attending Longwood University this fall, is the recipient of the Nettie Tucker Yowell Scholarship presented by the Virginia Business and Professional Women’s Foundation Inc. She is the daughter of Michelle Owens.

The Virginia BPW Foundation is dedicated to providing information, resources and educational opportunities to current and future working women in Virginia. The foundation was established by the Virginia Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs Inc. in 1984. The foundation has multiple programs and initiatives including scholarships.

The Nettie Tucker Yowell Scholarship is intended to provide financial assistance to Virginia young men and women pursuing a baccalaureate degree at a Virginia-based college or university. The awards usually range from $500 to $1,000. However, in honor of the foundation’s 25th anniversary, Owens will receive a $2,500 scholarship.

An independent non-trustee committee selects the recipients of the scholarships.
