MHS Haunted House opened Saturday

The Middlesex High School Band and Boosters have been busy preparing the Hallowed Ground Haunted House. They have stuffed dummies, built displays, decorated, organized actors and coordinated rooms of fright! Students and parents have diligently spent the past several months working on this community event.
Band Booster President Michele Hutton said this event has been in the making for over a year and the Band Boosters wants to provide students with an opportunity to have a fun and a different means of fundraising, along with providing a safe and frightfully fun community event for residents of Middlesex and neighboring counties.
The band department invited the French Club, Boy Scouts and Chesapeake Bay Governors School students to aid in the Haunted House. The band members wanted to involve other students in this team building event.
Hutton stated that local businesses and residents have welcomed the idea and without them “we could not have pulled the event off.”

It was only a few years ago that MHS Band members did not have a real uniform to wear to football games. They now wear uniforms that once belonged to another high school. This year the Band Boosters picked up 75% of the cost of band jackets for the students to wear at competitions and other events.
Justin Ranson, music director at MHS, also has provided logo T-shirts for those events not requiring full uniforms.
Music and field show uniforms still must be purchased; last year’s cost was $3,000. The band is hoping the Haunted House will be a huge success and continue through the years, which will aid the music department with the necessary funding to continue to grow.
The Haunted House will take place five nights, Saturdays and Sundays, October 18, 19, 25, 26 and Friday, October 31, from dark to 10 p.m. It is located at the Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department, 3309 Twiggs Ferry Road (Routes 3 and 33), in the building behind the fire station.
There will be free parking at the Hartfield Park-n-Ride and a large field located directly behind the Park-n-Ride. Guests will enter the wooded path from the parking field and follow the unknown to the Haunted House.
Admission is $5 per person; no one under 12 years of age admitted without a parent or guardian. A food concession stand will be available. For more information, check out the Haunted House website or email .
