MHS Band earns ‘excellent rating’ at festival

The Middlesex High School Concert Band recently participated in a music festival in Myrtle Beach, S.C., as part of the 2010 Spring Band Trip. Middlesex achieved an “excellent rating” from all judges, challenging much larger schools from Florida, and won first place in the Single A Division.

Baritone saxophonist Tyler Hartnett received an Outstanding Musician Award for his performance.

“The host school and judges noted the quiet professionalism of MHS band members and the county was well represented,” said band director Daphne Guill.

The band members enjoyed ocean-view accommodations, a show at the Dixieland Stampede, and a fun-filled beach football game.

“The band would like to extend a special thank-you to the Middlesex Kiwanis and Lions clubs for their support and to the Middlesex County School Board, MHS administration, and parents and chaperones who ensured a safe, fun and memorable trip for the Charger Band,” said Guill.
