MES students celebrate the 100th day of school
On February 19, kindergartners at Middlesex Elementary School (MES) in the classes of Mrs. Murfee and Mrs. Thomas, and 5th-graders in the classes of Ms. McNamee and Mrs. Saul, teamed up to celebrate the 100th day of school at MES.
The teams of Murfee/McNamee and Thomas/Saul have worked together this school year as writing buddies. The 5th-graders tutor and model the correct sentence structure for their kindergarten buddy, helping with journal writing.
“Not only do the kids love it, but it is helpful for all involved and they get the bonus of forming great relationships,” said Mrs. Murfee. “We teamed up together for the 100th day of school so that each kindergartner had their own 5th-grade buddy.”
The students made fruit loop necklaces counting to 100, built with 100 blocks, counted and made patterns to 100, counted by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s to 100, estimated candy in various jars, and made a 100 days book, just to name a few of the learning activities.
“A great time was had by everyone and we all look forward to our next learning adventure!” said Mrs. Murfee.
