MES PTO to host ‘Creative Expression’ Feb. 18

The Middlesex Elementary School (MES) Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will host an “Evening of Creative Expression,” where local artists will share their artistic abilities with the students and families of MES.

The entire community is welcome to attend this event, where they will experience booth time with numerous creative professionals from our area.  Attendees will be able to see, firsthand, the artistic abilities of each presenter, while also able to ask questions and learn about each particular art form.

The Creative Expression event will be held on Thursday, February 18.  Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and the program begins promptly at 7 p.m.  Attendees are encouraged to arrive early so they will not miss a minute of hearing from these local talents:  Victoria Rosendahl, children’s author; Judith Woodbury, watercolorist; John Chandler, martial arts; Ben Richardson, woodcarver; Dorothy Pagano, painter; Dixie Doerr, artist; Linda Walker, scrimshaw; LaJean Browning Smith, photographer; Rosalee Brown, wool spinner; and Jason Maloney, Congo drum musician.

“The MES PTO is very appreciative of these artists who have volunteered their time to share their knowledge with the attendees,” said a PTO spokesperson.

In addition to the artists, the evening will kick off the MES PTO raffle of a John Barber original pen sketch of a skipjack at Hooper Straight Lighthouse, framed by Nimcock Gallery.  The framed sketch is valued at $1,000, and will be on display at the school during the Creative Expression evening.  Raffle tickets will be sold for $5 each and the money raised will go toward the purchase of folding chairs for the school’s use during assemblies and functions, such as the holiday program and 5th -grade graduation. The winning ticket will be selected on Thursday, March 18, following the month’s PTO event.  The winner need not be present to win.

For additional information on this event or to purchase raffle tickets, contact Lauren Berry at 804-370-4948 or Lorna Lindsey at 758-3620.
