Local students compete in ‘Odyssey’

Middlesex Elementary School (MES) and St. Clare Walker (SCW) Middle School formed three teams of seven students each. The students worked on one long-term problem by figuring out how they could solve their challenge using performances and building techniques.
For example, one SCW team built a car that completed several tasks, including cleaning up the environment, finding wildlife, and encountering dangerous weather.
One MES team performed a skit where a food item was declared unhealthy by its peers. This team decided that Brussels Sprout had to defend himself as a healthy food!
The second MES team had to discover two treasures by traveling back in time and portraying this with a humorous skit.
Students also solved spontaneous problems at the competition. Students were given one minute to think and two minutes to answer.
“The teams, coached by MES teachers Samantha Rozakis and Amanda Guzick, competed this past Saturday in Hampton and had a great time,” said MES principal Jeannie Duke. “Students competed all day and supported the other teams when they could. Middlesex County Public Schools is very proud of the SCW team for winning second place in its category.”
