Middlesex High student Mark J. Hall receives a certificate of appreciation from Middlesex American Legion Commander Keith McAuley.

American Legion Post #82 of Middlesex is proud to present Mark J. Hall as the Middlesex High School participant for Virginia Boys State in the year 2008.

Virginia Boys State is a program of the American Legion Department of Virginia. It is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students. The Virginia Boys State is a participatory program where each participant becomes a part of the operation of their local, county and state government.

At the Virginia Boys State, participants are exposed to rights, privileges, duties and responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical with city, county and state governments operated by students elected to various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement, assemblies, bands, chorus and recreational programs.

High school juniors are screened by their high school guidance counselors and the final selection is made by the American Legion Post for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Hall was awarded a gift certificate from The Pilot House Restaurant in Topping for a job well done, and as a thank you for representing Middlesex County in this endeavor.
