The Middlesex Elementary School Geography Bee was held on Jan. 15. After classroom eliminations, eight 4th and 5th graders competed in a school championship.

Led by Beth Knight Brown, director of gifted education, competitors answered questions about U.S. geography. Students were eliminated when they missed two questions. After seven excellent rounds, everyone had missed two questions except 4th-grader Gabby Taylor.

Taylor was awarded a winner’s medal and T-shirt. These prizes were provided by the National Geographic Society. Taylor will be given a written test to see if she qualifies for state competition.

The other 4th grade participants were Kelly Wood, Will Leggett and Cassie West. The 5th grade participants were Jacob Bebee, Nicole and Emma Barnhardt and Willow Pedersen.
