Foundation awards 10 scholarships
River Counties Community Foundation recently provided 10 scholarships to Lancaster and Northumberland High School graduates from endowed funds established by local philanthropists.
The Northern Neck Rotary Scholarship Fund provided two $1,000 scholarships to Lancaster High School graduates. Wayne Lamkin will attend the University of Virginia and Heather Davis will pursue a culinary arts degree at Rappahannock Community College.
The Doris Estreet Scholarship Fund provided a $500 scholarship to Lancaster High School graduate Marcus Greene who will attend Virginia Commonwealth University.
In Northumberland County, three $2,000 scholarships were given by the Dollars for Scholars Fund to Kimberly Dobbins who will attend Virginia Tech, Nina Panzetta who will attend James Madison University and Alisha Spruce who will attend the University of Mary Washington. David and Carolyn Scarbrough established the fund.
Additional Northumberland High School graduate scholarships were presented by River Counties Community Foundation regional director Margaret Nost to Chelsey Kruski who received a $1,000 scholarship to attend Christopher Newport University from the E.C. and Viola Rice Scholarship Fund and to Kelsi Jewell who will attend Florida State University and DéAnte Palmer who will attend Virginia State University. They each received $1,000 scholarships from the Northumberland Civic Center Fund.
Nost presented Shaneka Brown a $3,000 scholarship to attend the University of Mary Washington from the scholarships supported by the Alice Haynie Dameron Fund. These endowed funds were established to provide scholarships on an annual basis so graduating students can anticipate their availability.
