Cullen Johnson awarded Academic Paper Scholarship
Cullen Johnson is a recipient of the 2013 National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) Academic Paper Award Scholarship in the amount of $250. Johnson won the scholarship with his Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School senior research paper titled “Using Spectroscopy in Analyzing Earthshine with a Ground-Based Telescope.”
Johnson’s academic paper was chosen as one of only 25 winners out of nearly 1,000 applications submitted to the NSHSS. Formed in 2002, the NSHSS recognizes academic excellence at the high school level and provides scholarship opportunities for deserving young people.
Johnson, who is 16 years old and one of the youngest graduates in the history of Middlesex High School and the Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School, is the son of Frank and Elizabeth Johnson in Deltaville. Johnson also is a Governor’s Early College Scholar, the male 2013 Tidewater District Scholar Athlete of the Year, and the salutatorian of the 2013 Middlesex High School senior class.
In the fall, Johnson will attend the University of Virginia.
