Class of 2011 cleans portion of Route 17

MHS students McKenna Millington and Morgan Stewart in their stylish orange vests on Route 17.

If Route 17 between Hardee’s and Food Lion looks a little cleaner, thank members of the Middlesex High School Class of 2011.

Last Saturday afternoon, members of the class picked up litter and other items from the highway and placed them in bright orange bags for VDOT to pick up. Class vice president Morgan Stewart said, “I can’t believe people throw all this stuff out their car windows.”

This was the first of eight planned pick-ups by the class. Participation was light because of the track meet in West Point, Little League baseball, and other commitments by members of the class.

Participating were McKenna Millington, Morgan Stewart, John Walsh and Kevin Walsh. They were helped by Chuck Walsh and class sponsor Carl McWhorter.

The next cleanup will be on Saturday, June 6.
