CCS Acting One Class to present Spring Showcase
Christchurch School’s Acting One Class will present its Spring Showcase on Monday, April 17, at 7 p.m. in the David and Wendy Charlton Fine & Performing Arts Center on the school campus. The performance is free and open to the public.
Voices of our Own is a compilation of student-chosen pieces combined into an eclectic dramatic experience. With no discernible theme, the class of 13 students from Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Wyoming, New York and China will present excerpts and cuttings from classical and contemporary theatre, cinema and television scripts. Their works are personal and express specifically their own viewpoints and passions for the spoken word.
“I didn’t set out to develop a show of this nature,” said director Mark Parsons. “I wanted to provide the students an opportunity to work on something to which they could connect personally and with sincerity.”
The performance will begin and end with choral readings featuring the entire class. The opener is a social consciousness selection titled “Suicidal Humanity” by Mark J. Halliday. The finale is a unique selection from Paul Fleischmann’s work “Joyful Noise: Poems for Two Voices.”
Students in the Acting One Class at Christchurch have worked this year to develop presentation and interpretive skills, and to come to understand and appreciate the impact and power of their own voice as expressed through dramatic performance.
