CA’s convocation kicks off school year

“Convocation” refers to a group of people formally assembled for a special purpose. Chesapeake Academy punctuates the beginning of each school year with this sort of community gathering to affirm common values, to focus on common goals, and to begin again to build a supportive community for learning together. Students gather and process in, and all are welcomed. The United States flag is honored with the Pledge of Allegiance. Student council officers are introduced, and new students are welcomed.

Each year at the school’s convocation, the head of school explains the school’s character theme, setting the focus for the school year.  This year’s theme of “connection” follows previous themes of: empathy, kindness, and trust.

Head of School Julianne T. Duvall explained, “Chesapeake Academy’s mission is to inspire each student to approach learning with curiosity and creativity, pursue excellence in all endeavors, and act with integrity—so each can make the community and world a better place. Our mission statement connects us to a common purpose—to make the community and world a better place.
