VIMS graduate students help kids expand their perception of scientists
Children are natural scientists, frequently asking questions about the world around them and how it works. But ask a child to draw a picture of a scientist, and they will most often sketch someone who looks nothing like themselves—an older white male with unkempt hair and a lab coat, holding a beaker in his hand and pens in his pocket.

October 7 was a special day for the Teachers for Tomorrow Cadets from Middlesex High School. They participated in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record program to promote early childhood literacy by reading “The Snowy Day” by Ezra Jack Keats to over 100 Middlesex Elementary School students.

Members of the Middlesex High School freshman class will hold their first official fund-raising function on Saturday, October 16, when they host a yard sale on the front lawn of MHS.
