Chesapeake Academy begins 44th year
Chesapeake Academy opened for its 44th consecutive year with a convocation and an assembly for students, parents and faculty designed to commemorate the beginning of school and promote involvement in all aspects of school life.

Middlesex High School (MHS) met benchmarks in all 29 categories to receive AYP status. Middlesex Elementary School (MES) and St. Clare Walker Middle School (SCW) had received AYP status the past two years, but did not make it this year.

Kindergarten student Katie Brooke, standing in line to go inside MES, gave a smiling wave to her mother, who couldn’t hold back a tear. “I’m worse off than she is,” said Karen Brooke of Stormont, who waited and watched with her husband Ed until their daughter’s class went inside.

“Bright Beginnings helps provide new clothes and school supplies to children in our community who are in need. The goal of this program is to help children have a great start in school by giving them confidence and the tools they need to learn.”
