MES PTO to host Harvest Fest
The Middlesex Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will host a Harvest Festival on Friday, October 22, from 6:30-8 p.m. for students and their families. The admission fee is $3 per person and includes all games and activities, two snack food items, and unlimited free drinks.

Ware catches a wave with Atlantic Rising
Ware Academy has been chosen as one of 30 stops along the Atlantic coast for the international research group Atlantic Rising, which is a small group of anthropological scientists on a 32,000-mile journey circumnavigating the Atlantic seaboard along the 1M contour line.


GED signup deadline is November 1
The Essex GED Center, serving the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck for 40 years, will sponsor a test administration on Saturday, November 6. The testing site will be the Essex County School Board Office in Tappahannock.


VIMS graduate students help kids expand their perception of scientists
imageChildren are natural scientists, frequently asking questions about the world around them and how it works. But ask a child to draw a picture of a scientist, and they will most often sketch someone who looks nothing like themselves—an older white male with unkempt hair and a lab coat, holding a beaker in his hand and pens in his pocket.
