MHS students selected to attend Freedom Foundations conference
imageJuniors Rachel Musick of Hartfield and Levi Lott of Urbanna have been selected to attend the March session of the annual four-day Freedoms Foundation conference at Valley Forge, Penn. Selection of attendees is based on demonstrated leadership, outstanding scholarship, and a genuine interest in United States history.

Lions to sponsor music scholarship
The Lions Clubs in the counties of Middlesex, Lancaster and Mathews are looking for gifted young people in the vocal or instrumental area who would be interested in winning a musical scholarship and furthering their musical education. The competition has been scheduled for February 19 at 2 p.m. at RWC in Irvington.


Figg sisters on CNU dean’s list
Ashley M. Figg and Lauren N. Figg of Wake, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin C. Figg Jr., have been named to the fall semester dean’s list at Christopher Newport University with a GPA of 3.74 and 3.68, respectively.


Mission: Get children excited about reading
imageMary Ann McKay will go to great lengths to get children to read. As the youth service coordinator for the Middlesex County Public Library, McKay has expanded the library’s reading programs into Middlesex Elementary School in a partnership to promote reading together. “It’s been very well received,” she said.
