Figg sisters on CNU dean’s list
Ashley M. Figg and Lauren N. Figg of Wake, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin C. Figg Jr., have been named to the fall semester dean’s list at Christopher Newport University with a GPA of 3.74 and 3.68, respectively.

Mission: Get children excited about reading
imageMary Ann McKay will go to great lengths to get children to read. As the youth service coordinator for the Middlesex County Public Library, McKay has expanded the library’s reading programs into Middlesex Elementary School in a partnership to promote reading together. “It’s been very well received,” she said.


‘Discovery Days’ set at Chesapeake Academy

Chesapeake Academy is hosting three “Discovery Days” this winter as a means to bring early childhood and elementary school families in our community together with enriching age-appropriate art, science, math, movement and music.


Violinist to give concert in Gloucester
Abingdon Episcopal Church at White Marsh in Gloucester County will host Bulgarian violinist Bella Hristova at 5 p.m. Saturday, January 21, at the church. The concert will mark the third this season in the Arts at Abingdon Series. A free-will offering will be taken.
