School budget meetings planned
Middlesex County School board members have agreed to hold community meetings in each district to give citizens an opportunity to discuss concerns over the proposed 2009-10 (FY10) county school budget. The state has informed local school officials that $553,000 in state funds will be cut in FY10.

“Due to potential cuts in education funding, many school districts across the nation are considering alternative schedules in order to reduce costs,” said Lane. The four-day school week is being implemented in several states, notably Kentucky and Colorado, he said.

Gabby Taylor wins Geography Bee
imageThe Middlesex Elementary School Geography Bee was held on Jan. 15. After classroom eliminations, eight 4th and 5th graders competed in a school championship. After seven excellent rounds, everyone had missed two questions except 4th-grader Gabby Taylor.
