Tidewater Foundation grants total $250k in 10 years
The funds for these grants are from the proceeds of The Holly Ball, a 114-year old traditional debutante ball which takes place each year in December. In 2009, the Tidewater Foundation made 29 such contributions, made possible by the proceeds of the 113th Holly Ball in 2008.

The Middlesex Family YMCA Preschool Class has grown tremendously this year and currently has 36 students in the class. Along with monthly field trips and holiday parties, the youth will be doing a community service project and this year the theme is “giving and sharing.”
11.18.2009Boatyard workers earn certification through RCC
Eight employees of Deltaville Boatyard in Middlesex County recently earned certification as “journeymen” in various specialties. This certification, from the Virginia Department of Labor, recognizes between 2,000 and 4,000 hours of on-the-job training and over 500 hours of completed class work.
11.18.2009C. Herbert Brown Jr. Scholarship established
After Mr. Brown’s death of multiple myeloma in August of this year, the Brown family suggested donations to Arts Alive Inc. in lieu of flowers. More than $5,000 was donated in his memory, and the board would like to honor Mr. Brown’s memory by giving back to the community he loved.
