Virginia D. Powell
Virginia Davis Powell of Suffolk passed away April 15, 2010 in Crozet.
A native of Saluda, she was born June 16, 1920 to Willard (Woody) Wells and Josephine (Josie) Walton Davis and was the last surviving child in her family of 12. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Paul Powell; her grandson, Jason Pitts; brothers, Woodland, Erylst, Roland, Henly, Robbie Grey, Hugh and Ray Davis; and her sisters, Mabel Douglas, Muriel South, Josephine Davis and Louise Oliver.
She is survived by three sons, Earl Hugh Powell, Joseph Rodney Powell and Terry Samuel Powell; and one daughter, Beverly Powell Pitts; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, Doris Hunt, Anita Wilson, Anne Delozier, Barbara Hodges, Judy Dick, Patricia Collier and Sandra Nuttall; and nephews, Brad Davis, James Douglas, David Douglas and Clinton Oliver.
She was a charter member of Wilroy Baptist Church and most recently a member of Crozet Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Saluda High School and Smith-Deal Massey Business College and was a devoted mother, homemaker, restaurant owner and licensed practical nurse.
A memorial service was held at Wilroy Baptist Church in Suffolk on April 18 with Rev. James P. Beale officiating. Memorials may be made to Crozet Baptist Church, 5804 St. George Avenue, Crozet, VA 22932, or Mountainside Senior Living, 1220 Crozet Avenue, Crozet, VA 22932.
