Thomas W. Throckmorton

Thomas W. Throckmorton, 75, of Saluda, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. As a career, Tommy coached at various colleges, as well as scouted for the Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before retiring. Upon his retirement he helped to form the Middlesex Youth Football League and enjoyed umpiring Little League baseball in the county.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Floyd Wayne Enroughty.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jane Major Throckmorton; a son, Thomas Christopher Throckmorton; his mother, Doris Enroughty; and a sister, Pam. Also missing his Pop is his grand pup, Marlin, as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Tommy really wanted to thank all of the many coaches he worked with over the years and all the players he had the pleasure of coaching. “They kept me young.”

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, at Randolph Macon College, Birdsong Hall, 114 College Avenue, Ashland, VA 23005. Arrangements are by Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Middlesex Sports Complex, P.O. Box 55, Hartfield, VA 23071.

“Only when you have been in the depths can you appreciate the heights. Without risks you will suffer no defeats, but without defeats you will win no victories. We think that when we suffer a defeat, that all is ended. Not true. It is only a beginning, always.”
