Thomas R. Hartley Sr.
Thomas R. (Tom) Hartley Sr. passed away July 28, 2013 in Gloucester after a long battle with dementia.
Tom served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines and as part of the occupying force in Japan. He served as the Executive Director of the Homebuilders Association of Southside Virginia before finishing his working life as the Executive Director of the Virginia Building Material Association. During his retirement he was a member of the Middlesex County Lions Club.
Tom will be remembered by his family as a loving husband and a devoted father, stepfather, and grandfather. His friends will fondly recall his keen sense of humor, his love of Dixieland jazz and sports of all kinds, his enthusiasm for life, and his love of a good time.
Tom is survived by his wife Cindy of Jamaica; his son, Randy and his wife Ginny and their children Jacob and Michael; his son Reed and his wife Pat and their children Ben, Lauren, Becca and Nick; his stepdaughter, Maria Biggers; his stepson, Chris Biggers; and his stepdaughter, Amy Zona and her husband David and their children Duncan and Camille.
The family will receive friends at Cindy’s home on Saturday, August 10, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
