Thelma B. Price
On Thursday, April 15, 2010, Mrs. Thelma B. Price of Hardyville died after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Price was born on November 2, 1913 in Irvington, the daughter of George Timothy and Virginia Ashburn Benson.
Mrs. Price was the widow of Millard Gwathmey Price, and she is survived by their children, Gwendolyn Price Carneal, Stephen Wayne Price and Glenith Price Whitaker; grandchildren, Lisa C. Yuhase, Tracy C. Winegar, Vicky C. Dennis, Kelly C. Lange, Christopher W. Price, CWO-4 (sel) Troy A. Price USMC, and Brent A. Whitaker; 10 great-grandchildren; and five nephews; a niece; and several first cousins, including Warren Ashburn and Raymond Benson.
After retiring as a business manager and as the organist of 40 years for Clarksbury United Methodist Church, Mrs. Price continued to serve the community by volunteering at a local church and various organizations, delivering clothes and toys to needy families, along with nurturing her flower gardens and playing her piano. Her favorite advice to others was “Think positive, keep your mind alert, and pray a lot.”
The family will receive friends at the Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home Chapel in Saluda, VA on Sunday, April 18, 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, April 19, at 11 a.m. in Clarksbury United Methodist Church, Hardyville, with interment in the church cemetery.
