Shirley A. Fields
Shirley Ann Fields quietly passed away April 16, 2008. She was born in 1938 in Water View.
Mrs. Fields accepted Christ into her life at an early age and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Church View. In 2003, she affiliated with Quiocassin Baptist Church, Richmond. While at Quiocassin, she served as a member of the Missionary Circle.
She received her early education in the Middlesex County Public Schools. She graduated from St. Clare Walker High School in 1955. She attended Virginia State College (now university), graduating in 1959 with a BS in elementary education and later received a master of science degree in education from New York University. Her professional career of more than 40 years began as an elementary education teacher at Bellevue Elementary School, Richmond, and culminated with her retirement in 2000 as a curriculum specialist at Fisher Model School.
Among her many organizational affiliations, she was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.; the Virginia State College Alumni Association; and a number of professional education associations, such as the Virginia Teachers Association.
She will be remembered for the cheerfulness she brought to the many family gatherings at holidays and on “butter-cup” farm in Water View. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends throughout the Caribbean, Europe, Canada and all over the United States.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Christopher and Annie Fields; brothers, Howard R. and Christopher E. Fields; sister, Evelyn F. Brown; sister-in-law, Martha Fields; and brothers-in-law, William Albright, Warren Jordon and Rev. Jerome Brown.
Survivors include four sisters, Marjorie Albright of Charlottesville, Emma Jordon of Severna Park, Md., Dorothy Green (Irving) of Glen Burnie, Md., and Helen Fitzpatrick (James) of Columbia, Md.; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and a sister-in-law, Doris Fields of Water View.
