Russell E. Booker

Russell Eubank Booker Jr., 76, of Richmond, died Thursday, March 19, 2009.

Born in Richmond, he served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1955 in the Korean War, 1st Armored Division, and was a 1959 graduate of the University of Richmond. He did graduate work in biostatistics at UNC.

Mr. Booker began his career at Virginia Vital Records and Health Statistics in 1959, serving as State Registrar from 1982-1995.

He was a lifelong member of Second Baptist Church where he served over 30 years as church clerk, several terms as a deacon, and sang for over a decade in the choir.

Mr. Booker advocated early childhood education for special education/learning disabled students in Henrico County and throughout Virginia.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cynthia Touchstone Booker; a daughter, Cecilia “Ceil” Touchstone Booker; a son, Russell Eubank Booker III; a brother, Lewis Thomas Booker; and a sister, Constance Booker Moe, all of Richmond; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He also had several relatives that lived or are living in Middlesex County.

Funeral services were held March 23 at Second Baptist Church, Richmond. Interment was in Hollywood Cemetery.
