Petronelle Ogden

Petronelle Mary Stewart “Pat” Ogden, 85, of Hartfield died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.

She was born in Essex County, England, on Aug. 24, 1924; served in the Wrens, the women’s arm of the Royal Navy, during World War II; and worked in New York at Town Hall as a production assistant for the Town Meeting of the Air, a leading national and international public affairs radio show. 

Ogden with her husband and children had lived in several East Coast areas, and then for 17 years in Oakville, Ontario, before moving to Hartfield in 1977.  Her many forms of dedicated service to the community over the years included being the historian of Christ Church Parish in Saluda and a regular volunteer at the Deltaville Library.

Ogden was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Guy Grover “Pete” Ogden.  She is survived by a son, Mark Ogden, of London; three daughters, Phebe Watlington of Richmond, and Grace Ogden and Susan Galvan, both of Takoma Park, Md.; a stepson, John Ogden, of Hudson, Mass.; three granddaughters, Amy Watlington, Sophia Galvan, and Julia Borum; and many other beloved family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 8, at 2 p.m. at Christ Church Parish, Saluda. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Animal Welfare League (for Middlesex), P.O. Box 975, White Stone, VA 22578.
