Mary Roberts

Mary Katherine Pustinger Roberts of Heathsville passed away on October 17, 2012. She was a nurse and a nursing administrator.

Born in Springfield, Mass., on October 27, 1926 to John C. and Clara Pustinger of Winsted, Conn., Mrs. Roberts is survived by a younger brother, Richard, of Tolland, Mass. , 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by a younger sister, Jeanne; and a younger brother, Johnny. 

On January 3, 1946, she married Arthur Thatcher Roberts of Oskaloosa, Iowa.

When all of her children were on their own, Mrs. Roberts enrolled in Northern Virginia Community College to resume her nursing studies.  She earned her associate’s and bachelor’s degrees, and earned a master’s degree in nursing administration from George Mason University, with honors. 

After retiring from nursing, Mrs. Roberts moved to Hilton Head, S.C., and then to Lottsburg to be near more of her family and grandchildren.  While living in Lottsburg, Mary was one of the first to volunteer at the new Free Health Clinic in Lancaster County and served as executive director for Hospice Support Services of the Northern Neck.

Mrs. Roberts resided the last 10 years in Heathsville and at The Orchard in Warsaw. She was laid to rest with her parents in Tolland, Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice Support Services of the Northern Neck, P.O. Box 262, Warsaw, VA  22572  (.).

A Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving will be held Friday, November 2, at 2 p.m. at Henderson Memorial Methodist Church, Callao. A visitation with family members will be held at the home of Cheryl Roberts Duffey and Dr. D.H. “Hap” Duffey of Lottsburg.
