Mary Jane Johnson

Mary Jane Johnson, 68, of Gloucester departed this life on Friday, May 29, 2009, after a brave seven-year battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., to the late Sophie and Thomas McCarthy. As a military wife she made homes for her family in many places. In 1979, she and her late husband Carl settled in Gloucester. 

She was a member of The Catholic Church of the Visitation. She was a kind and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

Survivors include her son, Eric Johnson of the home; three daughters, Cynthia Johnson of Glen Allen, Carol Trammell of Mathews and June (Tony) Guylitto of Charlotte, N.C.; three grandchildren, Rachelle (Joe) Spedale of Panama City, Fla., Harley Trammell of Mathews, and Colby Guylitto of Charlotte, N.C.; one great-grandson, Ashton Spedale; a brother, Thomas McCarthy Jr. of Buffalo, N.Y.; four sisters, Patricia Irwin of Lighthouse Point, Fla., Marilyn Kwiatkowski of Buffalo, Evelyn (Joe) Cichocki of Bristow, and Marie (Dave) Wekenmann of Buffalo; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and Rita Harlow, a very dear and devoted friend.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at The Catholic Church of the Visitation in Topping. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Catholic Church of the Visitation Building Fund, P.O. Box 38, Topping, VA 23169.
