Mary H. Wier
Mary “Betty” Herndon Wier of Richmond, formerly of Urbanna, died January 2, 2009 at home after a long battle with cancer.
She was the daughter of the late Willis K. and Bessye J. Herndon, and is survived by her husband of 57 years, Emmett N. Wier; a daughter, Bess Leigh Booze, and husband David of Wilmington, Del.; two grandchildren, Raleigh and Caroline Booze; a brother, Willis K. Herndon Jr. of Aiken, S.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Wier was born in Augusta, Ga., on November 20, 1929. She graduated from Georgia State College for Women. After spending 34 years in Richmond, she spent 13 wonderful years on the water in Urbanna, and returned to Richmond in June of 2006.
She was a member of River Road Presbyterian Church where she served as a president of the Women of the Church. She loved her church, women’s circle and Sunday school class. She was a member of PEO, which she cherished dearly, and the Tuckahoe Women’s Club. She volunteered for several charitable organizations, most notably 18 years delivering Meals on Wheels.
She loved family and friends and was noted for her sweet demeanor.
A memorial service was held at River Road Presbyterian Church in Richmond on Saturday, Jan. 10.
