Maj. Charles Mayes Isbell (USMC ret.)

Charles Mayes Isbell, 87, of Hartfield died on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at his home.

He was the son of the late Arnold J. Isbell of Pensacola, Florida, and Margarita M. Giese of Newport News. In 1954, he married Mary Dunn of Gloucester. After 26 years in USMC at various bases throughout the country, he retired and proceeded to build a house on the Piankatank River Golf Course in Hartfield. He was an avid golfer and a true fan of the Washington Redskins. He was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Gloucester. He taught math and coached the golf team at Christchurch School for 10 years.

Proceeding him in death, besides his parents, were his brother, Don, wife Mary, and daughter Kendy.

He is survived by his children, Charlie and his wife Ann of Columbia, S.C., Keith and Lucy of Las Vegas, Nev., and Danny and Tina of Hartfield; grandchildren, Jonathan of Myrtle Beach, Macia of Virginia Beach, Erica of Lexington, S.C., and Mary of Hartfield; and great-grandchildren, Joe and Ivy of Lexington, S.C., and Mary of Hartfield.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 6:30-8 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, at 1 p.m.

Special thanks to his caregivers, Bridget Y Ceballos and Regina Carter, and also his Hospice team.

Memorial donations may be made to either Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 581, Gloucester, VA 23071; or to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice, 7358 Main St. Gloucester, VA 23061.

The family requests that everyone wear casual attire for the visitation and funeral service.

Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory, Gloucester, is in charge of arrangements.
