Lois Moody Mackey
Lois Moody Mackey, 81, of Newport News, died peacefully on September 18, 2012, following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, James Morton Mackey Jr., and by her parents, Reverend Boyce Hutson and Hazel Thompson Moody.
She was born in Hampton, and grew up in Hattiesburg, Miss., Altavista, and Baltimore, Md. She graduated from Westhampton College of the University of Richmond in 1953.
She is survived by her three children, Ann Mackey Penrose and her husband Ken of Newport News, Lynn Atwood Mackey of Williamsburg, and James Morton Mackey III of Deltaville; her grandchildren, Kristen Lynn Penrose, Anne Taliaferro Mackey and James Morton Mackey IV; and her sister, Jean Moody Vincent and husband Stuart of Franklin.
Lois enjoyed a wonderful life as a homemaker and mother, as a teacher and in retail. She especially enjoyed spending more than 50 years at her family home in Deltaville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad in Deltaville or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
