Linnette Ricks Holmes

Linnette Ricks Holmes, 88, of Winand Dr., Harrisburg, Pa., transitioned into eternal life on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 in the peace and love of her home. She was born in Nansemond County, daughter of the late Herbert Ashley Ricks Sr. and Lucy Ash Ricks. A graduate of Nansemond County Schools and Virginia State University with both a bachelor and master of science degrees, she began her teaching career in Rocky Mount, Va., and Franklin County Schools and retired from the Harrisburg, Pa., school district. She was a former member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Franklin County and was a member of United Missionary Baptist Church of Harrisburg where she served as a Deaconess and taught Sunday School.  She and her husband worked with the Gideons International for several years and, in her leisure, she was a Girl Scouts volunteer. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. 

Mrs. Holmes leaves to celebrate her life her loving and devoted husband, James A. Holmes; her loving daughters, Edna H. Keyes and Thelma H. Hill; her brother, Herman Ricks (Mary); her three grandsons; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; as well as lifelong friends, Furman and Mattie Moody.

Her life will be celebrated on Thursday, March 7, at noon in the sanctuary of United Missionary Baptist Church, 1221 S. 19th St., Harrisburg, Pa., with viewing from 11 a.m. until noon. Burial will be in the Holmes Family Cemetery in Saluda on Saturday, March 9, at 2 p.m.
