JoNell Kelly Creekmur Thatcher passed away July 29, 2009. She was born in Richmond on August 26, 1938.

Survivors include her son, Nelms Creekmur (Renata) of Atlanta, Ga.; granddaughters, Anna Lee and Nadia; brothers, James Kelly (Sharon) of Hiwassee, and Patrick Kelly (Judy) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; and five nieces and nephews and their children.

A cheerleader at Thomas Jefferson High School, Mrs. Thatcher then graduated from Johnston Willis Hospital as an R.N. and from the Medical College of Virginia as a family nurse practitioner.

She and her late husband, Dick Thatcher, were avid sailors and charter members of the Urbanna Creek Yacht Club. She operated Kerry Girl, a clothing store in Urbanna.

She was president of the Clay Network of Northeast Florida and a competitive tennis player who was affectionately known as the “lob queen.” An original member of the Christ Church Cares Ministries, she served as a Shepherd and a Stephen Minister. She also served as an usher and a member of the Cursillo Community. One of her proudest achievements was recently receiving her 13-year chip for sobriety.

Services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church at Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 3:30 p.m.

Following the service, family will receive friends at the South Ponte Vedra Civic Association, 2724 S. Ponte Vedra Blvd., where she was a long-time member.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Linda’s Legacy Foundation, P.O. Box 2431, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida 32004-2431.
