James Roland “Jimmy” Pleasants

James Roland “Jimmy” or “Jim” Pleasants of Deltaville and Ashland, 79, died August 5, 2017 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. During his last hours he was surrounded with the love of his children and grandchildren. 

Jimmy was predeceased by his devoted wife of 57 years, Savilla Seay Pleasants; his parents, Roland and Marie Pleasants; brother, William Pleasants; and nephew, Andrew Pleasants. 

He is survived by his daughters, Garland Lynne Basye (Chris) and their children Brent and Shelby Rae, and Doran Elaine Hutchinson (Kirby), and their children Taylor Lynn and Joshua. Also, a brother, Benjamin Pleasants (Kathy); nephew, Michael Pleasants (Mandy), special cousin Dorothy Major; and his “Seay” nieces and nephews, Chuck, Danny, Audrey and Diane and their families. 

Jimmy retired from C&P Telephone Co. and after that he enjoyed owning a small contracting business, traveling and playing golf. He and his wife were known and loved by many. Their home was always available for a good meal, friendship and even babysitting. He was active at Zoar Baptist Church and Donovan Lodge No. 5 and, having served in multiple positions, was considered the Patriarch of the Lodge. 

The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 8, from 2-4 pm and 5-7 pm at Bliley’s-Central, 3801 Augusta Avenue, Richmond, with a Masonic service to follow at 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Road, Hanover, VA 23069. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Zoar Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1010, Deltaville, VA 23043.
