J. Ray Davis

Julian Ray Davis, 84, of Saluda and a lifelong resident of Middlesex County, died Monday, March 16, 2009. 

Mr. Davis was the youngest of 12 children and continued to work in the sawmill business until his retirement, as his oldest brothers had done. He was a member of Forest Chapel United Methodist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member and past master of Urbanna Masonic Lodge #83 AF & AM. 

Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, Willard W. and Josephine W. Davis; brothers, Woodland, Erylst, Roland, Henley, Hugh and Robbie Gray; and sisters, Muriel, Josephine, Mabel and Louise. 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Emma Wilson Davis; daughters, Barbara D. Hodges, Patricia D. Collier and Sandra D. Nuttall; sister, Virginia Powell; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one on the way. 

Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, in Forest Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Warner. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.
