Edith Whittemore Richardson

Edith Whittemore Richardson, 87, of Church View, widow of Louis S. Richardson, died Saturday, March 28, 2009. 

A native of South Hill, she received her education there and at Mary Washington College. She was a teacher at the former Church View School for several years before starting her family.

A member of Hermitage Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School classes for many years, mainly the Adult Women’s Class; served 29 years as secretary-treasurer of the Hermitage Cemetery Committee; was active in WMU; and was a longtime volunteer for various causes. 

She is survived by a daughter, Marny Sue Richardson of Gloucester; a son, William L. “Bill” Richardson of Church View; three grandchildren, Lynda R. Willard and her husband Peter of Mascot, Tina R. Ammons and her husband Jason of Church View, and William L. “Buck” Richardson, Jr. and his wife Jessica of Church View; three great-grandchildren, Kimberly and Jeffrey Ammons and Savannah Richardson, all of Church View; and two brothers, Charles V. and N.L. Whittemore, both of Norfolk. 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, in Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda. Interment will be in Hermitage Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 30, at the funeral home. 
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hermitage Baptist Church, P.O. Box 190, Church View, VA 23032, or Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 790, Urbanna, VA 23175.
