Clement H. Lawson Sr.

Clement H. “Bear” Lawson, Sr. 82, of Penns Grove, N.J., passed away on November 28, 2008 at Memorial Hospital in Salem County.

Born in Harmony Grove in Middlesex County, Mr. Lawson was the son of Walter and Lydia Lawson. Along with his wife, he moved to Penns Grove 53 years ago from Topping.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pedricktown, served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from General Motors in 1983 after 30 years of service. Over the years Mr. Lawson also worked for several local farmers, Renas Bakery, Anchor Hocking Glass and Ervin Marcus Construction in Bridgeton.

He is survived by his wife, Alma; his son, Albert T. and fiancee Jaci Nixon; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lawson’s son, Clement H. Lawson Jr.; four brothers; and four sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Dec. 3 at the First Baptist Church in Pedricktown, N.J. Interment was at Salem County Veterans Cemetery. Visit for more information.
