Betsy Haynie Snead of Urbanna surrendered her four-year battle with breast cancer on Monday evening, Jan. 26, while staying with her daughter in Charleston, S.C.

She leaves behind her husband of 33 years, James Daniel Snead; daughter, Marie Lockett Snead; and future son-in-law, Christopher John Hoyle.

Other survivors include her brothers, Don Haynie and Tom Hamlin and sister Peggy Wilson. She was a loving and caring aunt to nieces Michelle Giese, Kim Robinson and Bonnie Woods, and was also admired by nephews Richard Haynie, Todd Wilson and Lawrence Snead.

She will be remembered as a woman of strong faith, positive spirit and driving will to help others. Her spirit will carry on through all those who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Snead was a longtime resident of Urbanna. She gave her service as a radiology technician to Richmond Memorial Hospital, Lee Davis Medical Center, Urbanna Family Practice and Henrico Doctors Hospital. Her dedication to service was profound, volunteering even during her treatment.

She was an active member of Urbanna Baptist Church where a memorial service was held Saturday.

In lieu of gifts, donations can be made to the Christopher Desch Foundation. P.O Box 8467, Richmond, VA 23226.
