Avery Thomas Haywood

Avery Thomas Haywood, 81, of Deltaville, a native of Mathews County, died Friday, December 25, 2009. 

He retired from Northrop Grumman after 32 years service.  He was a member of Zoar Baptist Church. 

He was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Irene White Haywood; and a grandson, Allen Haywood. 

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia Vaughan Haywood, son, Sherwood V. Haywood Sr., grandson, Vaughan Haywood Jr., and granddaughter, Pamela Haywood, all of Deltaville; two sisters, Martha Slaughter of Chesapeake, and Lois Buchanan; a brother, Richard Haywood of Mathews; and a dear friend, Brenda Gail Jeter of Deltaville. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 28, at Zoar Baptist Church, Deltaville.  Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, December 27, at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda. 

A special thank you to the staff of Rappahannock General Hospital and the Hospice of Central Virginia. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Lower Middlesex Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 440, or Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 98, or Zoar Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1010, all of Deltaville, VA 23043.
