Audrey Crittenden Burrell, 83, passed away peacefully February 21, 2014 at Cedarfield Health Care Center, Richmond.
The daughter of the late Virginia Crittenden White and Alva Denzil Crittenden, she was born in Deltaville and lived in Dahlgren from the age of 12. Throughout her life, Audrey met the challenge of cerebral palsy with grace and courage, and she is remembered lovingly for her wry sense of humor and quiet determination. She graduated from Mary Washington College in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and worked as a Statistical Analyst for the Department of Defense at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren for 20 years. She loved card games, Scrabble, and jigsaw puzzles, and traveled widely, both to Europe and around the United States.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Styles Burrell. She is survived by her sister, Jean Crittenden Kauffman (Myron, deceased); her brother, John David White (Tricia); three nieces; and one nephew. She is also survived by her stepson, Robert Burrell (Cheryl); stepdaughter, Vicki Koehl (Donald); and three step-grandchildren and their extended families.
She was surrounded with love by her family and admired by all who knew her. A private family burial will take place March 1 in Middlesex County. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
