He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Nola L. Berlinghoff; his children, MGySgt. Anthony Charles “Tony” (Kim), Stephen (Lesa) and Mary Beth Ayres (John); brothers and sisters, Jim Berlinghoff (Vickie), Jean Reynolds (Charlie) and Donna Campbell (John); and grandchildren, Jesse, Stephanie, Rachel, Anthony, Maddison, Morgan, Jonathan, Caroline, Leah and Hannah.
He was an Army veteran that served during the Cold War. He was retired from A.H. Robbins, with over 25 years of service and was also retired from Horizon Hobby Distributors. He was a former longtime member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and was a present member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church. He was an active Deacon of Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Vice Moderator of Mid-Tidewater Baptist Association and President of Mid-Tidewater Gideon Camp. He was currently the President of the Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Ed was an avid baseball, tennis, volleyball, basketball and softball player. He coached many youth sports over the years, and was active in numerous civic organizations.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 11, at Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 12, at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, 5270 Charles City Road, Henrico, VA 23231. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park.
